Baltimore, MD, November 6, 2013 The University of Maryland BioPark announced today that the Clinical Trial Center for Functional Foods (CTCF2) has signed a lease for office space at the BioPark. The main home for the CTCF2 is located in the Jeolla-buk Province of South Korea, and is part of the Chonbuk National University Hospital.

“When the BioPark was founded, we had the goal of establishing a strong presence from the international life sciences community,” said Jane Shaab, University of Maryland Research Park Corporation Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the UM BioPark. “We began building this presence with the SNBL Clinical Pharmacology Center, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of a Japanese biomedical company, and now we have our first investor from Korea.”

Established in 2006, the CTCF2 provides clinical trials for pharmaceutical, medical devices, dietary supplements, nutriceuticals, and dietary indications for companies that want approvals for life science and agricultural products to enter into the Korean market. CTCF2’s office space in Baltimore marks its first operational presence in the United States.

“We found the UMB BioPark to be a prime location partly because of its proximity to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the National Institutes of Health, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore, particularly the UM School of Pharmacy. The accessible resources, connections, tenants, and facilities made available by being at the BioPark were substantial in our decision making process,” said Soo Young Chung, Ph.D., Team Leader, Clinical Nutrition Team, CTCF2. “The BioPark’s current growth and future plans for new buildings make this is an ideal place for us to build on our current projects. Our conversations with the leadership and staff made us feel comfortable and confident.”
