UM BioPark tenant stretches out, plans to hire

Leaders of the BioInnovation Center at the University of Maryland (UM) BioPark said Thursday that it will double its size over the next six months.
The center, which opened in 2007, will expand to 18,000 square feet to accommodate its growing companies. The extra square footage, which will be mostly lab space, will allow enough workspace for 50 new employees.
Biotech firms Gliknik and Fyodor Biotechnologies plan to take some of the additional space in the research center. Meanwhile, three other companies — InstantLabs Diagnostic Corp. of Washington, D.C., Rockville-based Amplimmune and PharmaJet of Colorado — recently have leased space in the facility.
Wexford Science and Technology, the project’s Hanover-based developer, will invest $1.5 million in the expansion.
The UM BioPark, a 10-acre research park near the school’s west-side campus, has generated 500 jobs since it opened six years ago.
