UMB stays on track with west side biopark plans

Baltimore Business Journal

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (http://www.umaryland.edu) is moving forward with its plans to build a bioscience research park just west of its downtown campus.

Consultants to university planners put the finishing touches on their feasibility reports this week, and could release the reports to the public later this month or next, said Jane M. Shaab, UMB's senior director of business development.

University officials still plan to break ground on the first building of the research park by the fall of this year, with the scheduled opening of the first building slated for December 2004, Shaab said.

The first building likely will comprise four to six floors and 80,000 to 100,000 square feet of space, including space for a business incubator. The university's prospective tenants include the nearly 60 bioscience companies that already collaborate with the university on research projects.
