Many leaders in the technology businesses, especially the life sciences, are concerned about the progress Maryland is making in the biotechnology sector. The state dropped to a No. 4 ranking as a biotech area last year in a report by the accounting firm Ernst & Young. Among the signs of progress cited are the University of Maryland BioPark and a reported announcement from the state about a revitalization plan in the neighborhood surrounding the BioPark.
