Speaker Bios

Patrick J. Kelly is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Ballard Spahr and is a member of the biotechnology practice team in the Patents Group, and a member of the Life Sciences/Technology Group. His practice focuses on intellectual property matters related to the life sciences. Dr. Kelly advises pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and scientific instrumentation companies and venture capitalists. Dr. Kelly's experience includes serving as acting director of intellectual property for a pharmaceutical company, where he was responsible for a wide variety of patent matters, including review of invention disclosures, due diligence studies, freedom-to-operate studies, review of licensing agreements, and related patent matters. He also served as on-site patent counsel for the life sciences and chemical analysis division of a leading manufacturer of scientific instruments and analysis equipment.

Estelle J. Tsevdos is a partner in the Intellectual Property Department of Ballard Spahr and is a member of the Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks, and Life Sciences/Technology Groups, as well as the biotechnology and chemical practice teams within the Patents Group. She focuses her practice on intellectual property law, with an emphasis on the life sciences, including the biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, agricultural, cosmetics, consumer products, nutraceuticals, chemicals, and medical device fields. Dr. Tsevdos has advised both domestic and foreign entities on copyright and patent strategies, licensing in both areas, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions, and defense of patent rights. She has extensive experience in prosecution, litigation, counseling, and opinions and interference, including reissue, reexamination, and appeal proceedings before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences.
