Baltimore's Next Renaissance: Baltimore's Biotech Parks
May 5, 2003
Baltimore Business Journal
For as long as bioscience has been a buzzword, Baltimore's biotech industry has played ugly stepsister to that of Montgomery County and its famed Interstate 270 corridor known as "Genome Alley."
That may soon change.
Plans -- in the form of two large bioscience research parks on the east and west sides of Baltimore City -- are in the works to capitalize on Baltimore's renowned research institutions and transform the area's economy into that of a life sciences haven.
"Those two projects are for more than just Baltimore," said Donald C. Fry, the president of the Greater Baltimore Committee. "They are the axis of a catalyst to create a regional economy based on life sciences. They are the backbone of a new economy for this region."
