University of Maryland president says Biotech Park on track

Neither war nor a perceived lack of venture capital will derail the proposed University of Maryland, Baltimore Biotech Park, university officials say.

Leaders of the university's planned park and the nonprofit group formed to lead the effort said last week that they believe the business plan adopted for this multi-building project just west of University of Maryland's downtown campus is strong enough to attract prospective tenants and much-needed venture funding.

"The interest is there; the venture capital is there for projects that make good business sense," said David J. Ramsay, president of University of Maryland (http://www.umaryland.edu) and of nonprofit University of Maryland Health Services Research Park Corp. "We're trying to establish business partnerships that need to do research and development and clinical testing work. There is money out there to support that.
