On September 5, 2012, the BioPark hosted a Business of Bio session featuring MedImmune's Executive Vice President of Research & Development Bahija Jallal, Ph.D. Speaking on “The Changing Face of the Biopharmaceutical Industry - Creating a Culture of Innovation”, Dr. Jallal addressed an audience of bioscience company representatives and others from throughout the UM campus. Said Dr. Jallal, "To foster innovation, pharma and biotech companies need to get back to the basics: Do the Best Science, hire and retain the Best Scientists, and ensure a clear Business Focus." Making the most of her visit to Baltimore from MedImmune's Gaithersburg headquarters, Dr. Jallal arrived early to hold a meet and greet with UM Research Deans – Susan Dorsey, Associate Dean for Research/School of Nursing; Robin Pierson, Senior Associate Dean for Research/School of Medicine; and Li Mao, Associate Dean for Research/School of Dentistry. All in all, her trip to Baltimore was an outstanding success - rated extremely high by audience members who praised her words as "inspirational."
